Psych Press offers a unique talent acquisition strategy to ensure that you recruit the most suitable graduates to achieve your firm’s commercial and business goals. This strategy is based on distinctive approaches to two different challenges:

Tailored web-based graduate recruitment solution

Psych Press has developed a unique approach to address the challenge of graduate recruitment in a time sensitive context. Online competency based recruitment and screening tools are developed to specifically focus on the required competencies. This enables your company to perform a graduate recruitment project much more quickly than competitors and provides partners and HR staff with a stack-ranked graph of graduates' relative suitability, based on various benchmarks, or any specific applicant group which might be relevant.

This advanced solution for the graduate recruitment challenge offers:

  • shortlists of graduates’ relative suitability
  • individual graduate recruitment reports
  • a strong branding message to potential graduates
  • saves staff time
  • reduces costs of graduate recruitment
  • provides graduate recruitment best practice and consistency across different teams/divisions/states
  • delivers data for future assessment of graduate recruitment effectiveness (ROI)
  • delivers better graduates who are more productive and stay longer

Beyond operational improvements and an increase in cost benefits and client service capability, this tailored online graduate recruitment process delivers strategic benefits in terms of the intellectual property gathered about successful performers in the company.

Tailored psychometric solutions for the graduate recruitment challenge

Psychological testing will support your company’s managers to make informed graduate recruitment decisions regarding the most suitable graduates for graduate roles and to identify those who have the potential to become effective managers in your organisation. This can be used to distinguish between several good appearing graduates.

Psych Press has a reputation for providing quality psychometric testing services to organisations worldwide for over 15 years. Our approach to assisting organisations with graduate recruitment decisions is to use a Competency Based Assessment of Fit.

Benefits of using Psych Press’ psychometric testing process to tackle your graduate recruitment challenge:

  • Legally defensible – you are using a standard and performance related criteria to make informed graduate recruitment decisions.
  • Psychometric tests are selected for clear alignment with an organisation’s critical graduate recruitment competencies and role specific requirements.
  • Only qualified psychologists will interpret graduates’ results, write tailored graduate recruitment reports and provide feedback for managers and graduates.
  • We offer simple to read, business-related written graduate recruitment reports to enable managers to get detailed understanding of graduates’ relevant strengths and weaknesses at a glance.
  • We are able to service our clients with best practice tailored psychometric tools to address the graduate recruitment goals.
  • High touch candidate care.

Our psychometric tests are always tailored to the specific graduate recruitment objectives. The 'battery' of individual tests usually covers a range of abilities, interests, personality and work behaviour.

Maintaining objectivity, validity & reliability

Psychometric instruments are mainly used due to their objective nature. All such tests used by Psych Press have been developed and evaluated with two important points in mind - they must be valid (i.e. measure what they claim to measure) and they must be reliable (i.e. show consistency between different groups of people, and over time).

Assessment Centres

Assessment Centres for graduates can be run on an individual basis but are typically scheduled so that blocked centres with multiple participants (graduates) are conducted. They include a variety of assessment tasks, but are reduced in number by the online screening done earlier in the selection process.  However, regardless of their place in the selection process, the use of a variety of tools and multiple assessors gains the most reliable and accurate assessment possible. Typically the assessment tools we use include:

  • a structured, behavioural interview conducted by an assessor, usually focused on understanding the participant’s experience, approach to work, motivations, and goals;
  • cognitive tests which measure the graduate’s underlying reasoning and problem solving capacity;
  • personality or work style inventories for understanding the graduate’s preferences and enduring traits that can influence their behaviour at work; and
  • business simulations that allow observation of the graduate’s behaviour in realistic work situations.

Together, these tools provide a robust, accurate measure of graduate’s capabilities.

Psych Press would provide facilitation services as required. This might include:

  • Provision of senior facilitators or Centre leaders
  • Provision of Assessor/Observers
  • All materials as required
  • All psychometric tests and profiles

We would involve your managers or HR staff as and if required.  This provides an opportunity for your staff to observe the graduates first hand in a simulated work environment, and to observe the graduates interacting with each other.

Research would also suggest that this form of assessment is a valid addition to the overall selection process.

The output from the assessment stage is a spreadsheet of graduates’ results ranked according to a combination of their performance in the psychometric testing and the assessment centre. Decisions regarding interviews would be made in consultation with your relevant managers from the graduates’ rankings. Typically detailed reports would be prepared on candidates offered employment as a career development / performance management tool.
